Milestones in the history of the Barwon Oil Barons
- In 2019 Rosie Bright sought any residential olive growers she could find in the Geelong area. We ended up with 13 people including the Farm Next Door, in total we picked 580 kilos. That year olives were delivered to a suburban garage and Manzanilla Olives came to the party to process the olives for us.
- In 2021 more people came on board and we picked 1,845 kilos of olives. By then Geelong Region Olives commenced providing advice and facilitating the processing of olives into oil.
- In the same year, a committee was formed with Alison Lewis Nicholson, Heidi Fog (also a sponsor), Jan Rockcliff from the South Barwon Community Centre, Rosie Bright, Steve Parker from Geelong Region Olives, Lachie Chomley, and Brendan Bolton.
- A 2022 grant was provided by the City of Greater Geelong Council for much needed infrastructure to support the growing popularity of the project.
- 4,500 kilos of olives were processed in 2023 seeing 80 participants, and four drop off points across the region.
- In 2023 the City of Greater Geelong Council provided additional funding specifically for a website to promote the Barwon Oil Barons more efficiently.
- In 2025 168 participants dropped off a collective 6,972 kilos of olives off at four drop off points across the region.
